Celiac Awareness Month

Almost 14 years ago, I was tested as a pregnant mother for "celiac disease". I had never heard of the disorder, but agreed to be tested because it is inherited. It is said to be found in those who have European decent. Because of my ancestry being as it is (totally mixed up) I always agree to be tested for everything. Additionally, I am aware of French and Italian four generations back.

Foods containing wheat, barley, oats, and other grass related grains can cause severe discomfort, hair loss, bone and joint pain, skin disorders, swelling, vitamin deficiencies, ulcers, irritability and more!

At any rate, I am not a carrier, but of course inquiring minds always uncover information once it is presented to them. I have, since being tested, been very conscious of this disease.

I have heard that, in certain instances, gluten is not particularly good for anyone.

It may affect behavior in small children causing overactive interactions, fatigue and other maladies that some physician might misdiagnose and may even be quick to put kids on meds for. So please consider all of the angles if these symptoms speak to you or a loved one.

Manufacturers have been putting gluten in everything as of late (ketsup) when it should only be in a few things. This is much like with high fructose corn syrup and the affects it has had on obesity.

Some of the items I have tried without gluten have been dismal (pasta) so I was incredibly relieved when I found a blogroll of websites devoted to gluten-free cooking!

BLOGHER.COM author Kalyn Denny wrote such a nice piece and included so many wonderful blogs that it is a MUST READ! CLICK HERE

In the spirit of a Healthier, Happier, You, find some dishes that will please the mouths in your household but will lessen the inundation of gluten in their systems.

If you have Celiac, the sites are going to inspire you, AND if you know of any other sites promoting a gluten-free diet, add them!

This is the month for us to really take an account of what we put inside of our precious castles - our bodies!

I do think celiac is being diagnosed more and more and people find out about it. Thanks for the nice words about the BlogHer piece.
