An evening on my floor...

Last night a familiar sound rang out about 9:45pm. Finishing household chores, debugging a laptop, homework and a sleeping dog. Pow Pow Pow Pow...speeding wind escaping some old model vehicle and screeching tires. The woosh whip of the pursuing police car and the blue and white lights illuminating the dark neighborhood sky.

I live in a "good" neighborhood. Every neighborhood in my opinion is good. Some better than others. Mine, in particular, is a college neighborhood, filled with cafes, galleries, museums, boutiques and family's homes. But my "hood" also has remnants of lives battered, wayward teens, unconcerned overworked parents and many people who have not integrated fully into the United States.

Unfortunately many of these hardworking parents are harboring terrorists. Or have raised them into their own terrorist culture. "Gang-banging" is NOT harsh enough.

These misled souls are not Al Capone. They are NOT the Gotti's. They are uneducated, angry, untrained, unfocused hoodlums who should be tried and treated as terrorists.

Enough. Enough. Enough.

My family has lived all over this great city , and NO neighborhood is exempt.

My family knows "Hit the floor" and all it entails.

The dog knows and whimpers and barks afterward.

I know that I have written about this ad nauseam; but read this:

§ 2331. Definitions of international terrorism

As used in this chapter—
(1) the term “international terrorism” means activities that—
(A) involve violent acts or acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State, or that would be a criminal violation if committed within the jurisdiction of the United States or of any State;
(B) appear to be intended—
(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or
(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and
(C) occur primarily outside the territorial jurisdiction of the United States, or transcend national boundaries in terms of the means by which they are accomplished, the persons they appear intended to intimidate or coerce, or the locale in which their perpetrators operate or seek asylum;
(2) the term “national of the United States” has the meaning given such term in section 101(a)(22) of the Immigration and Nationality Act;
(3) the term “person” means any individual or entity capable of holding a legal or beneficial interest in property;
(4) the term “act of war” means any act occurring in the course of—
(A) declared war;
(B) armed conflict, whether or not war has been declared, between two or more nations; or
(C) armed conflict between military forces of any origin; and
(5) the term “domestic terrorism” means activities that—
(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State;
(B) appear to be intended—
(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or
(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and
(C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.

If this doesn't define gangs I don't know what does. This chosen lifestyle far supersedes an aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, Mister and Missus ACLU members.

A felony does not classify what these young people are doing.

I tell them in my office daily that I abhor their actions. I think they are acting stupidly, trifling, and are baby killers (anti-abortion activists take note). I question their tactics. The fact that they tag "their" neighborhoods but have never paid one iota of a tax dollar is a constant topic in my office. "Let me know when you become a homeowner and have a mortgage", I tell them. They have no weapons training, yet they walk around like Rambo. They drive on Kmart licenses and cars bought in a friend's back yard. They never hit their target. They are angry and have no outlet for their anger.

Yet, we the taxpayer, support their off-spring; educate and feed them. Who will feed the dead? The innocent dead? We live in fear and spend our evenings on the floor because they reign. They are the citizen supreme.

By day I am a law enforcement officer who supervises offenders post-sentencing. Once these offenders are before me, long after being shackled and demeaned, they are humble and apologetic. Many of them are escorted to the airport and given a flight home, compliments of me and of you. Many of them are self-genocidal, and that would be most acceptable if they knew how to hit their mark. They don't. Most are home-grown gang members who return to nothing but the streets. It is obvious most have superior intellect that is unnoticed. There are also those who are mentally challenged who have been ignored.

What is the answer to this? Well, we all know that I am a proponent for global education. But it needs to start at home.

Home in the barrios, the ghettos, the projects and the farms. Inner cities and all across this great land. Spend that money here making the U.S fulfill its promise.

Pop culture has made it cute, but it is not cute. The world is not what we should be fearing Newt and Cheney...we have terror in our own backyards because of the 8 years of stripping and flailing government programming in preference of war.

My hope for my family is that they simply survive the terror at home.
Fight the war at home first. Instead of sending my son across the ocean, let him grow up, safe in his own home first.

Then and maybe then, you can harass my President. Until then, spend on President Obama; and YES, I still woke up happy! And VERY thankful -- THANK goodness, I have clean floors.

Staying On the Road to WELLNESS!

Really feeling energized every morning is something I thought would never come to me.

Not in this lifetime anyway.

But every morning I am ready to go.

I am a "bed" person, so parting with my bed is difficult. BUT energy-wise I am there.

It will be a year of complete veganism in July, I think, and I have truly never felt better. SO, I am not here to preach that tune, but share a bit of how I got the gumption.

It began with little, tiny, baby steps. If you are challenged in some way, just eating a salad from McDonald's once a month will not get you where you should be.

I eliminated the burgers, as you know, due to the near death experience with the Dairy Queen bacon double cheese! GOSH, I LOVED that, but after my episode my intestines didn't even like the word dairy! Hearing the D-A-I-R and they would twist and turn and bunch up! So I HAD to begin a journey. It started with calming, cleansing things like ginger tea and reishi teas and coffees.

Fascinating how good you will feel in just starting there.

A simple tea cleanse, eliminating what is bad in all of the ways possible is such a life changer. Once you run out of the cookies, crackers and processed things don't buy anymore. Additionally knowing that we do NOT need anything dairy just to get calcium will stop the allergies and other mucus related maladies and welcome you to clear head.

As I sip my cafe, without the au lait, non-dairy (creamers in the freezer section are yummy!,) I was thinking about how many of us wake up and are not feeling well and struggle to face the day!

Get up, S-T-R-E-T-C-H and do something for you TODAY!

What In The World??

I just turned off Ali Velshi and Christine Roman "Your $$$" on CNN!

6 months ago that would have never happened. I watched CNN in my sleep!

Don't get me wrong. I still LOVE CNN and all of its programming and adore all of the anchors but something has changed in me.

I am not sure it is reality though. For that, I need your input.

I have become a Twitterholic. I have not been neglecting this blog for that reason (more about the neglect later) but have seriously preferred Twitter to any other form of the news.

I "follow" CNN breaking news and quite a few other informative favorites as well.

I follow NPR, The Huffington Post and the gals over at Blogher and their political sites.

The change, and this is where you come in, is the way that news is presented on Twitter.

ITS HAPPY!

I don't know why I find it happy, but I do!

Being surrounded by amiable fellow Twitterers tempers things, and, well, to me that is now preferable.

Even when I am faced with unpleasant news, having my followers, or those I follow, simultaneously sharing other things or offering immediate consolation matters.

I still may flick on the news, but I no longer want to listen to the drone of long winded horror, or things that affect me.

Now that may be good or bad -- jump in here people -- but the economy on Twitter is still BAD but there are hundreds of thousands there with genuine alternatives to make me better, strive stronger, want more, and also be my friend.

***********

Have been working on something new! *SOMETHING NEW* Still "bare-bones" (K.R. Copeland always has the words when I don't) BUT it is up and running! Anything you'd like to contribute or offer in way of advice or critique is ALWAYS welcome ~ AND, as always ENJOY THIS DAY!

Reaching Out To The World Today ~

The world just shrank to minuscule proportions this week. Everyone is becoming conscious of one thing or another. There are a gazillion issues that need discussing and it can be overwhelming.

FEAR NOT!

Everything you do now has a trickle affect that indeed SNOWBALLS.

You may not realize but with our technology today, one thing you do outside of yourself certainly seeds and blossoms.

I began thinking about this today. It is almost a universal referral program or the whole "Chickens coming home to roost" but in a good way. "What goes around, comes around" but in a good way!

That small coffee you sponsor at your church, it is a seed.

That elderly friend you see each day that you speak to and give his doggie healthy treats, it is a seed.

A smile. Paying a meter for a stranger. Buying the guy behind you his coffee. Just as that commercial used to air.

It comes full circle.

Plant a seed today ~ keep me posted ... as I always, I want to share in your ups and downs!

Enjoy this day!

Hey, How Is Your May Today?

It is my hope that everyone had a splendid day yesterday.

Many of us still have our mothers or an important woman in our life. Many of us have loss. Many of us have not had the blessing. It is a large world when that happens. It is a small world when it has not.

I do know many a motherless child. I know many of us who lack any influence. I know many wonderful and crusading women who have tackled challenging situations: sick children, dying loved ones, adopting, missionary work, substance abuse challenges, domestic violence and have somehow managed to instill leadership and inspire many.

There is an awesome sun shining bright today, and it caused for pause and reflection again today, that women are wonderful creatures!

Last month, I featured, on Easter Weekend, our great friend, Christine Rabel of Mary Kay and I want to shout out to her that her service is spectacular!

Many times we are seeking that certain nitch that will give us a desired outcome for our lives, but we disregard who we are and what we can bring; both to the situation and to the craft.

Christine is a reminder that you must first HONOR YOURSELF! The rest will come.

She is a genuine, professional, spirited woman. She did not sell me. She did not market or fill my inbox. She simply cared.

Like our other powerhouse, Ann Evanston encourages, simply be true to your heart, your ideas will sincerely vault you into the game and perception will become truth and you will succeed!

{{{Stepping off soapbox}}} (whoops tripped).

Thanks for supporting the House all this time and I look forward to hugging each and every one of you with something super soon ~

To ALL the Mothers

Mother's Day has many meanings and origins but mainly it is celebrated across the globe on the second Sunday in May.

I always considered it a "Hallmark" occasion and did not give it much credence, sincerely, until now.

While my grandmother was alive, I don't remember much enthusiasm on my part, though I loved her dearly. My grandmother was my best friend, and my my most influential ancestor. I would shower her on her birthday because I was born two days after she was and there was always a major celebratory event signifying each year we were together to do so.

This year however, though I have bawled my way through many of my son's "Mother's Day" tea parties at school, Mother's Day has a real significance inside of me. I appreciate having my mother like never before.

I know she is a gift; fragile and fragrantly delicate like petals in the breeze.

I have come to really acknowledge and appreciate motherhood. In each mother I know, connect with, have witnessed, seen, embraced or grown with, there is something tangible and warm. I, for some reason, can now see the sparkle in their written words, the tired excitement in their eyes after they've performed some perfunctory task or commitment.

In our own special ways, we are all wonderful mothers. I see it! I see YOU.

Today and everyday I embrace you. Strong, enduring, fighter, lover, nurturer, handmaiden, protector. Worrier, doctor, nurse, taxicab driver, bus driver, cook, waitress, servant, teacher, cleaner.

Powerful mothers. Loving mothers. Shining, lucid wonders who procreate, birth and raise.

On THIS day, be applauded. You are so important. So vital. SO NECESSARY, needed and belonging right at the top of life's bedazzled heap of folks that the family's village needs. Glistening and ever ready for your next task, your next work. Your next breath.

Enjoy ~ Sunflower says so!

SUPER SUNDAY ~ WITH ANN EVANSTON ~ STAND TALL "WARRIOR PRENEURS"!

When I think of Ann Evanston, I immediately envision water. Ann is like water in that she gracefully fills up whatever space she is in, be it telecommunicating, on the web or in person, while she conducts a seminar. You feel her and her presence is known.

Ann is powerfully demure (it's possible) not easily contained, smooth, and douses any fire from fear. Need a life coach, mentor, leadership adviser or just a good friend and you can find it in Ann. ANN IS A WARRIOR-PRENEUR who has graciously honored my request to visit the House!!! I am SO excited that this vibrant spirit has taken a moment from empowering folks across this great land to share a bit of herself with us! THANK YOU, ANN ~

You mentioned that you are from Chicago. Can you tell us about your upbringing her in the Mid-west?

Well, yes and no. I am 2nd generation Italian and my entire family is from Chicago. I was born during the Vietnam war though and as a military family we moved. But my heart is with my extended family in Chicago and I go at least once a year to visit them.

What is the essence of Ann?

I am strong, confident and determined. But like any other woman, peel away the layers and my heart is fully involved in everything I do. I cry, I laugh, I love . Life is feeling, I could not imagine not having heart.

When did you know that you could reach people and empower them?

I have always been influential, but realizing you have the ability to empower others is another thing. I think I first realized it in college while writing my undergraduate thesis. I interviewed wives and girlfriends of prison inmates. My abilities to make them feel valued, listened to and respected allowed them to share hours of information no one ever thought they’d share. The thesis has actually been published 3 times in journals!

Your feistiness is contagious, how do you keep the fire burning?

I didn’t grow up easy, but the fire has always been there! I think being feisty comes through because of 2 traits; a belief in TRUTH- people don’t describe me as honest but as “THE TRUTH” and a belief in HUMOR - life is meant to be full of laughter. Put them together and feisty is what you get!

What is a Warrior-Preneur in today’s world?

Independent, confident, savvy, creative, solution-oriented, influential, spiritual, self-aware, loving, maverick, life-long learner, strategic. A Warrior-Preneur knows they are in charge of their lives, their success, their happiness, whatever path.

Many women take a stance of inferiority or sheepishness in the work place and in their lives, what do you say to them?

STOP IT! Esteem and confidence is yours to take! If you think your life sucks stop thinking like that! Whoa THAT IS Zena!! Victimitis, the disease of blaming everyone else needs to look at their own thoughts that might be creating that reality.

I know we have to read your book "The Power of Leadership, 'Being the leader, Producing results'", but can you give us a teaser? How can an introverted woman tap into her inner warrior?

The book is a compilation of several authors on how leaders produce results. I am amazed how many small business owners do not realize they are leaders! As I described a Warrior-Preneur, you can be introverted or extroverted. Ultimately the key for any woman is to build confidence. There is power in introverted strength or extroverted strength and combined with the loving heart, a woman is truly a warrior.

You give seminars, conference calls and encourage women to take full advantage of social media, what are the greatest aspects of this advice?

I think women should take advantage of everything life has to offer, which is so much more than social media! I want women to realize that no matter what they are taking advantage of:

♀They do not need to be afraid

♀They have a voice worth hearing

♀Their greatest asset, wanting to help others, is their smartest strategy when social networking

♀That “media” is just technology and they can learn it and use it in powerful and fun ways!

It is so obvious that your work is your fun, but what else does Ann do, say on a beautiful evening or just out with friends…where would we find you?

Well, I am a home body! I travel so much, that I love being home, reading, enjoying my view, cooking, drinking wine with friends. When I do leave for fun I love the wine country! It’s always an adventure! I am a tremendous cook. Not a recipe kind of cook; I love to try things out. All my family says I should do a cookbook or site!

Give us a break-down of each of your sites. What is your vision for Social Networking Coaching Club.com?

I want to take coaching to the next level. I remember when coaching was only done face-to-face, then the telephone was offered as an option and most do it like that today. Online is a “just-in-time” coaching opportunity at an affordable rate so more people have access to it.

How does Zenawomen.com interpret you and where you see women in the next ten years?

I want women to realize that smart, savvy and sexy comes in all shapes and sizes. I want women to realize that as soon as we become a true warrior tribe, loyal to each other, our lives will be so much easier. I want women to become loyal and committed to WOMEN! My goals for my business is to certify warriors to facilitate my courses to others around the globe.

Friends On Friday ~ Wouldn't you like to be a Twitterer Too ~

Have you ever been "social networking" and there was someone just blazing up the trail?

Funny, intelligent, a real social butterfly?

That would be JackInChicago aka Jack Benton. You can follow JackInChicago as I do on Twitter. His resume reads such that Donald Trump should hire him - hands down! Yet, our friend Jack has been a casualty in this economic slump.

He is a life long Chicagoan. He is practically an emergency officionaire's dream.

He has a quick sense of humor and a charitable side too...so for that...please let me introduce you (drum roll and tambourines) to Jack Benton ~ "in the House".

Photo courtesy of Jack Benton

Jack was kind enough to participate in my first telephone interview. I learned so much about Fire Safety, dedication, love of the job, persistence and love of your fellow man.

Jack Benton became involved with Fire Safety as a teenager in the Chicagoland's South Suburb of Riverdale. I asked Jack about Fire Sciences and his experiences.

Jack's volunteering peeked his community interest right out of high school. His father was a policeman, so love of fellow man is in the blood. He also attributes his experiences with the University of Illinois Champaign Fire Service Institute as fostering much of his specific knowledge.

We then covered ground that I never knew existed! CHECK OUT JACK HERE!!!

How is it that someone with this much experience is not lending their assorted viewpoints to better this wary and worried world??? Think-Tanks of Illinois, take notice!

Jack has been a Lieutenant, an EMT, a Public Information Officer and has worn may other hats as well. Currently, he is promoting his voice to bring much needed attention to ARMYWIFENETWORK.

A person who has committed himself to the betterment of others is a special person indeed!

And imagine that once upon a time, Jack suffered panic attacks.

He is promoting the Panic Attack and Anxiety Support Group of Bolingbrook, IL.

From the University of Maryland's Advanced Fire Administration Certification class to our living room here in this House, Jack Benton is a person we should know and keep in our hearts and minds!

I love asking people where they see themselves within a certain amount of time. It gives vision and foresight and I love future speculation. When I asked Jack where he saw himself, he joked that he would simply "love to have a job".

Bringing us all down to earth in these troubled times is NOT Jack Benton's modus operondai. He continues to uplift us, make us aware, support us, support our families and our causes...AND he is thankfully a White Sox FAN!

Jack, please pop in every now and again and keep us up to date on your many varied and wonderful endeavors ~ Thank you SO much!
